Tips
Your ottoman is one of the hardest-working pieces in your home — a footrest, extra seating, a surface for trays and books, and a focal point all at once. Because it sees so much daily use, a little routine care goes a long way. Whether your ottoman is upholstered in fabric, wrapped in leather, or built on a wood or metal base, the principles are the same: stay consistent, act quickly when something spills, and avoid the cleaning shortcuts that do more harm than good. With the right habits, your Joveco ottoman will stay looking as sharp as the day it arrived — for years to come.
For everyday maintenance, the goal is simple: keep dust and debris from building up. Fluff and rotate cushioned ottomans every few days to maintain their shape and prevent uneven wear on one side. For ottomans with hard or smooth surfaces, a quick pass with a dry or lightly damp microfiber cloth is all it takes. Fabric ottomans benefit from a weekly vacuum using a soft brush attachment — this lifts fine dust, pet hair, and lint from the weave before it has a chance to settle in. It takes less than a minute and makes a noticeable difference in how the piece looks and feels over time.
Spills are inevitable, and how you respond in the first few seconds matters most. For fabric surfaces, blot immediately with a clean white cloth — pressing firmly without rubbing, which pushes the stain deeper into the fibers. Use a fabric-safe cleaner sparingly, and always test it on a hidden area before applying it to the visible surface. Let it air dry completely before using the ottoman again. For leather and faux leather, the same blot-first approach applies. Follow up with a wipe-down using a damp cloth and then a dry one. Every three to six months, apply a quality leather conditioner to keep the surface supple and prevent cracking — especially if the ottoman sits in a room that gets warm or dry. Keep leather pieces away from direct sunlight and heat vents, as prolonged exposure causes fading and brittleness that is difficult to reverse.
Wood legs and frames should be dusted regularly and polished a few times a year with a wood-safe product to protect the finish and keep the grain looking rich. Metal hardware and bases are generally low-maintenance — a dry cloth wipe is usually all that is needed. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on any part of the ottoman, as they can strip protective coatings, bleach fabric, and dull finishes. The same goes for abrasive scrubbers, which leave micro-scratches that accumulate over time. When in doubt, less is more — mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth handle most situations without risk.
